What You’ll Learn
Authura quizzes support four question types: Multiple Choice, Checkboxes, True/False, and Question Group. Each has different answer and editing behavior, including which formats can use Change Type after creation.
What This Is
Quiz question types are the formats available when adding questions to a quiz within a Quest.
On a blank quiz, + Create New Question opens the options for adding the first question.

After questions have been added, a + icon appears beside each question. Either option opens the Question Type modal, where educators can choose Multiple Choice, Checkboxes, True/False, or Question Group.

How It Works
Multiple Choice
Four answer options appear by default, with the option to add more for a maximum of 10. A radio button is used to mark the correct answer. The selected response displays a green checkmark and the green Correct Answer label.

A Multiple Choice question can use Change Type only to convert to Checkboxes.
Checkboxes
Checkboxes uses the standard question-management controls. Its Change Type option can convert the question only to Multiple Choice.
True/False
True/False contains two answer options. A radio button is used to mark the correct response, which displays the green checkmark and Correct Answer label. An optional Explanation field can provide additional information to the student.
A True/False question can use Change Type to convert to either Multiple Choice or Checkboxes.
Standalone question types share a 6-dot menu with Duplicate, Change Type, Difficulty, and Delete Question. Available Change Type choices depend on the current question type, and difficulty can be set to Easy, Medium, or Hard.

Question Group
Question Groups organize related questions inside an embedded group interface. Educators can add related questions or add existing questions to the group.
Question Groups use a different 6-dot menu with Ungroup, Duplicate Group, Difficulty, and Delete Group. Ungroup makes the questions within the group individual questions again.

Note: Question Groups use different management controls from standalone questions and do not include Change Type. For the full workflow, learn how to create and manage a Question Group.
Example
An educator deciding how to structure a quiz question can compare the formats in the Question Type modal. An individual question can later use Change Type where that conversion is supported, while a Question Group keeps related questions together and uses its own group-management controls.
Each individual question also has a revision history control at the top right. Use it to view and restore older versions of that question.

Question-level revision history is separate from the quiz-level revision history available from the main quiz toolbar.
When to Use
Use this article when comparing quiz question formats, checking which types can be converted, reviewing the controls available for a question, or deciding between an individual question or a Question Group.
