What You’ll Learn
A Playbook Template is a reusable starting structure that educators can duplicate and customize to create new Playbooks in Authura.
Templates help speed up structured learning design by providing pre-built Quests, sequencing, and learning organization.
What This Is
A Playbook Template in Authura is a reusable foundation for building structured learning experiences. Instead of starting with an empty Playbook, educators can begin with an official template that already contains learning structure, Quest organization, and activity placeholders.
Authura Playbook Templates are created by IvyBee with input from educational experts to help educators organize learning more efficiently while still allowing flexibility for customization.
Templates are designed to save setup time and improve consistency across courses or learning experiences. They are not final published Playbooks.
A published Playbook is the completed learning product distributed through Authura. A Playbook Template is simply the starting point used to create one.
Templates may include:
Quest sequencing and structure
Learning content placeholders
Basic Quests
Adaptive Quests
Review Quests
Game Quests
Game Quests are only available through existing templates or previously created Playbooks that already contain Minecraft experiences.
How It Works
Playbook Templates act as reusable learning frameworks.
Educators duplicate a template and then customize the duplicated version to match their own instructional goals, pacing, and classroom needs. After duplication, educators can modify Quest content, reorganize learning pathways, and adjust the structure inside the Playbook Editor.
Because templates are reusable, multiple educators can start from the same template while still creating very different final Playbooks.
It is important to understand that duplicating a Playbook Template does not automatically publish the Playbook. Playbooks created from templates still require customization, saving, and approval before they can be distributed through Authura.
Templates help reduce manual setup while maintaining flexibility for different teaching styles and course requirements.
Example
An educator wants to create an introductory biology learning experience for a new semester.
Instead of building the Playbook from scratch, they duplicate an Authura Playbook Template that already includes:
Introductory Quest sequencing
Review Quests for assessment checkpoints
A Minecraft-based Game Quest
Placeholder learning activities
The educator then customizes the content, pacing, instructions, and learning activities to match their own course objectives before submitting the Playbook for approval.
This allows the educator to focus more on instructional design and less on rebuilding the same structure manually each semester.
When to Use
Use a Playbook Template when you want to:
Create a new structured learning experience more quickly
Start with pre-built Quest organization and sequencing
Reuse proven learning structures across courses or semesters
Include Game Quests in a Playbook experience
Maintain consistency while still customizing content for different learners
Playbook Templates are especially useful when educators want a reliable starting point without losing the ability to personalize learning experiences for their students.
