How do I buy the EMR Playbook and create an IvyBee account?

You can purchase the EMR Playbook directly through the IvyBee Store. During checkout, you’ll be asked to create a IvyBee account using your email. This account will give you access to the Playbook materials and your course content in FeatureBase.

Is there a discount code for the EMR Playbook, and how do I apply it?

If your instructor has provided a discount code, you’ll enter it during checkout on the IvyBee store. Look for the “Promo Code” field before completing your purchase. If you don’t have a code, the standard course material cost applies.

Can I get a refund after I purchase my EMR Playbook?

All Playbook purchases are final and non-refundable. Once you buy access, you'll have ongoing use of the Playbook and course materials.

Do I need prior Minecraft or medical experience to succeed in this course?

Not at all. The course is designed for beginners. We'll guide you step-by-step — no prior Minecraft or clinical background required.

What devices can I use to play Minecraft for this course?

The EMR course requires Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, which only runs on:

PC (Windows)
Smartphones (Android and iPhone)
Tablets (Android, Windows, and iPad)

On Mac, you can use Parallels with Windows.

I have a Mac, but Minecraft: Bedrock Edition only works on PC. How can I play?

Use Parallels on your Mac – Install Parallels Desktop and download Windows to run Minecraft: Bedrock Edition directly on your Mac (a valid Windows license may be required).

Use a Windows PC – Play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on any compatible Windows computer.

Use a mobile device or tablet – Bedrock Edition is also available on smartphones (Android and iPhone) and tablets (Android, Windows, and iPad).

How do I connect to the IvyBee EMR Minecraft server?

After launching Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, go to:

Play → Servers → Add Server
Enter the Server Name (provided in your IvyBee profile)
Enter the Server Address/Port (provided in your IvyBee profile)
Click Save & Join

How do I begin the EMR experience once I’m on the server?

When you first join the EMR server, you’ll spawn in the trellis/fountain area.

Then:

Make sure you’re holding the Calculator in your hand.
Right-click (PC) / Right Trigger (Controller) / Tap & Hold (Mobile) to open the Calculator menu.
Choose the EMR Levels button.
Select EMR Tutorial to begin.

Do I need a Microsoft account to play Minecraft for this course?

Yes. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition requires a Microsoft account. If you already have one, you can use your existing login. If not, you’ll need to create a free Microsoft account during the purchase or download process.

How do I create a Microsoft account?

Go to account.microsoft.com and select “Create Account.” You can sign up with an existing email (such as Gmail) or create a new Outlook.com email address. Once complete, you’ll use this account to purchase and log into Minecraft.

Which version of Minecraft do I need for this course?

You’ll need Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, available through the Microsoft Store. This is different from Minecraft: Java Edition. Make sure you purchase the Bedrock version, as it’s the only one that works with the EMR server setup.

If Minecraft is already installed on a computer, do I still need to buy a license to play?

Yes. Minecraft requires a valid license tied to your Microsoft account. Even if the game is already installed (such as on a campus computer), you must sign in with an account that has purchased Minecraft to play.

If you already own Minecraft, just log in with the same Microsoft account you used for your original purchase.
You only need to buy the game again if you want a separate account or if you’re playing on a platform that requires its own license.

What is the difference between Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition licenses?

Minecraft has two main editions:

Java Edition (PC/Mac): Runs only on Windows, macOS, and Linux. This license does not work on consoles or mobile devices.
Bedrock Edition: Works across multiple platforms including Windows 10/11 (PC), Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Purchases are tied to your Microsoft account but usually apply only to the platform store where you bought the game (e.g., Xbox Store, App Store).

Licenses do not transfer between editions. Owning Java Edition does not automatically give you Bedrock Edition, and vice versa. However, once you own a specific edition, you can install and play it on multiple devices that support that edition, as long as you sign in with your Microsoft account.

I already own Minecraft: Java Edition. Do I still need to buy Bedrock?

Yes. The EMR course server runs on Bedrock Edition only. A Java Edition license does not grant access to Bedrock. If you don’t already own Bedrock, you’ll need to purchase it separately.

Can I log into Minecraft on different devices with the same account?

Yes. Your Microsoft account works across devices.

👉 Note: While you can explore the course content in Minecraft on Mobile, the full EMR course server experience is designed for PC (Bedrock Edition). For the best performance, we recommend using a Windows PC or a Mac with Parallels.

How do I access Minecraft on mobile (iPhone, iPad, or Android)?

You can download Minecraft: Pocket Edition (Bedrock) on both iOS and Android:

iPhone/iPad: Download from the Apple App Store (~$6.99).
Android phones/tablets: Download from the Google Play Store (~$6.99).

👉 Important: Mobile devices (iOS/Android) are fine for exploring Minecraft, but the full EMR course server experience is designed for PC (Bedrock Edition). For best results:

Use a Windows PC (preferred)
Use a Mac with Parallels + Windows

Gameplay, Progress & Grading

How much time per week will it take to earn an A?

The grading system is designed to be challenging but achievable, even with other commitments:

Exams: An A begins at 64% correct.
Extra Credit: Up to +20 points via in-game Reputation Score. (~4 hrs/week effort can make an A possible with only 44% correct).
Exam 1 (MCAT-style): Slightly easier than the real MCAT, focused on reasoning.
Exam 2 (USMLE-style): Easier than the real USMLE, requiring a smaller set of knowledge.
Optional Final: Can replace your lowest exam; an A is possible with 44% + extra credit.
👉 Bottom line: With steady participation, most students can earn an A without overloading their schedule.

Do I have to attend lectures in person, or can I watch virtually?

You are expected to attend weekly lectures either in person or virtually during the live session. Recordings may be provided through eLearning for missed classes, but this is not guaranteed.

How do I open menus with items in Minecraft (like the Calculator)?

To open a menu from any special item you are holding in Minecraft:

PC (Windows/Mac): Hold the item in your hand and Right-Click your mouse.
Controller (Xbox/PlayStation): Hold the item and press the Right Trigger (RT / R2).
Mobile (iOS/Android): Hold the item and Tap & Hold on the screen.

This is the same action as “Use Item” in Minecraft. If nothing happens, make sure the item is in your active hotbar slot (the one currently selected at the bottom of your screen).
